Candle Safety and Burning Tips
Never leave a burning candle unattended - Melted wax is hot enough to cause burns, beside the fact that anytime you have an open flame it is a good idea to keep an eye on it.
Always keep your wicks trimmed - I'm sure you've seen candles that have high flames that leave soot on the sides of their containers. This is caused when wicks are too long. It is a good practice to keep your wicks trimmed to 1/4" for safety and best burning results.
Burn candles on Heat-resistant surface - Of course this only makes sense.
Do not burn candles longer than 4 hours at a time - When candles are burned longer than 4 hours at a time they can become very hot due to a large melt pool. Extinguish your candle, let it cool, and trim your wick. You can relight your candle as soon as it has cooled.
For best candle burn, when you light your candle do not extinguish it until it has a full melt pool - This usually takes 2-3 hours, depending on the size of your candle. The reason for this is so your candle will have a "memory" and will burn to the edge of the container cleanly.
Keep lit candles away from children and pets - Just another common sense rule of thumb.
Choose candle/votive holders carefully - Use candle holders that are sturdy, won't tip over easily, are made from a material that can't burn and are large enough to collect dripping wax.
Keep your burning candle in a draft-free area - For best burn results and safety.
Don't burn candles down to nothing - Votives and containers should be extinguished when there is no less than 1/4" of wax left in the holder/container.
